“Reality” TV

I confess, I get excited about watching The Bachelor. I love the drama, the silliness, the romantic dinners where they never eat a bite of food, the rose ceremony that drags on forever, all of it.  I cringe when the producers keep “the villain” and roll my eyes when they profess their love after a couple of dates.  I know it is scripted. I realize the producers create characters from the endless hours of footage they have. Obviously this is not a smart way to find the love of your life.  Yet I love it anyway.

Life can be hard so why not enjoy an escape from reality?  Sometimes you find yourself dealing with a stressful work day, an ailing parent, a touchy teenager, a messy house, laundry, cooking, etc.  Why not grab a bowl of popcorn and shut the real world out for a couple of hours?  I won’t judge you, and neither should anyone else.

I am also a sucker for a happy ending.  I find myself rooting for my favorites and hoping they find a way to navigate the craziness they signed up for and survive in the real world.  There are a few couples that are happily married because of this show. Maybe 20 years from now Colton and Cassie will be sitting in their own living room eating popcorn ,watching season 50 of the show while they laugh and roll their eyes.  It could happen!

So I say enjoy your “Reality TV”!  Your Real Housewives, Big Brother, Kitchen Nightmares or whatever else makes you happy. Life is too short to take it too seriously.  As for myself, I’m going to be waiting for May and the next season of The Bachelorette.  You are welcome to join me.

**Tell me about YOUR favorite reality show and why you love it in the comments.
